Ellen Garrison, the daughter, and granddaughter of men who had been enslaved, began her anti-slavery activism at the age of 12! After the Civil War, Garrison was a leader in the fight against segregation. She became a teacher of newly freed people and used education as a tool to empower her community.

Ellen's lifelong commitment to civil rights is an inspiration. Her wisdom in using education as a tool for empowerment is a lesson we can learn as we continue to fight for equity and justice. Learn more about Ellen at the link in our profile.
